3 Days gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park in Uganda
The gorillas are much more known to reside in Bwindi Impenetrable national park however they also exist in Mgahinga national park in Uganda. Mgahinga national park is the smallest park in Uganda covering an area of 33.1sq km. The part is hosts the 3 extinct volcanoes which are part of the Virunga ranges, these include: Mount Muhavura, Sabyinyo and Gahinga. The ancient Batwa tribe cave still lingers in the park. The park is known to host Golden monkeys which are rare endangered species. For gorilla trekking, there is only one habituated gorilla group in the Mgahinga national park- the Nyakagyezi gorilla family and trekking this group is competitive. Our 3 days gorilla trip shall surely take you to witness this magical gorilla family.
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga national park
The distance from Kampala to Mgahinga national park is about 519 km which takes an average of 10 hours by road to arrive there. The tour shall start and end in Kampala however if you are just arriving through the airport at Entebbe International airport; depending on your arrival time, it may be possible to drive directly to Mgahinga national park. Early in the morning, our tour guide shall meet and greet you and later drive to Mgahinga national park. Along the way, you shall make a stop at the Equator to photo taking and also carry out a few water experiments to see the difference between the north and the southern hemisphere. Later, you shall continue to the magical countryside and have another stop at Igongo cultural center and museum for lunch. Take a deep breath and ask a few questions about this wonderful museum. Continue your journey to Mgahinga and arrive in the evening. Check in at the lodge, relax, take dinner and enjoy your sleep as you wait for the next day.

Day 2 : gorilla trekking
Early in the morning after breakfast, the tour guide shall drive to the park headquarters at Ntebeko visitor center for briefing. Later, start your gorilla trekking experience by searching for the Nyakagyezi gorilla family. You shall be escorted by an armed park ranger who shall not only protect you during the trekking but also help in interpreting the various gorilla traces so as to view them. Depending on the gorilla’s last activity, it shall be possible to view them after a period of 2-8 hours. However the trekking shall be adventurous as you shall explore the different flora and faunas within the park. On spotting the gorillas, you shall forget all the trekking hustles and enjoy looking at these magical creatures. You are only allowed a period of 1 hour with the gorillas. Take as many photos as you can. Later retreat and move back to the headquarters to meet the tour guide. You shall then drive to lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Drive back to Kampala.
Early in the morning, you shall drive to Lake Bunyonyi and spend some few hours wondering at the magical 29 dotted islands. Later, continue your journey back to Kampala passing through Mbarara where you shall witness several herdsmen trying to graze the Long- horned Ankole cattle. Make stopover at the royal drum makers to purchase a few drum or simply look at the local drum making skills. Arrive in Kampala, late in the evening. If you have a flight, you shall be transferred to Entebbe International Airport. If you still have time, you can include other activities in parks like Lake Mburo national park, Queen Elizabeth national park, Murchison falls national park and others.
