4 days birding safari in Uganda, Uganda Birding Safari
This 4 -days birding tour will take you to 3 distinctive birding destinations in Uganda: Mabamba swamp, Budongo Forest, and Murchison falls national park. Murchison falls national park is one of the best parks for birding in Uganda and over 600 species of birds have been recorded in the park. River Nile crosses through the park and it is one of the main reason and attraction of birds in the area. Close to the waterway, there are several species that you are likely to encounter during your birding experience and these include most bee-eaters- red-throated bee-eater, swallow tailed bee-eater, black bee-eater, hornbills, doves, hamerkops, francolins, woodpeckers, coucals, flycatchers, shrikes, moosebirds, and others.
Day1: Drive to Mabamba Swamp
When you go to Mabamba swamp at any time of the day especially during daytime, there is over 90% chance of viewing the shoebill stork. Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall drive to Mabamba swamp which is 50 km away from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. On arrival at Mabamba, you shall be canoed along the swampy areas while looking out for several bird species. Jacanas, grey herons, Rufous, squaco, Goliath Heron, blue swallow, Allen’s and purple Gallinule, white headed barbet, white shouldered tit, Broad billed roller, Wahlberg’s Eagle, Cardinal and Nubian Woodpecker, Village and Black Headed Weaver, Sooty Chat, Shikra, and others. Later, drive to Masindi town for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Birding in Budongo Forest
Early in the morning, you shall depart for Budongo forest along royal mile for another birding adventure. The Budongo forest reserve houses many bird species and during this day, you shall look out for Little Grey and Little Greenbul, Black-capped Apalis, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Hairy Breasted and Yellow Spotted Barbet, White-thighed Hornbill, Forest Flycatcher, Nahan’s Francolin, Great Blue and Black Billed Turaco, Dusky Long Tailed cuckoo and others. If you are lucky, you may spot primates like the chimpanzee and several monkey species within Budongo forest reserve. Later, you shall transfer to the Northern section of Murchison falls national park. Check in, dinner and stay for a night at the lodge.

Day 3: Birding in Northern Murchison falls
Early in the morning, drive to the park to start your boat cruise from the top of the falls while searching out for several species of birds like Pygmy and striped Kingfishers, Rock Pratincole, Hauglins Francolin, Shoebill Stork, Senegal Thick-knee. Much as this is not a wildlife safari, during the cruise, you won’t miss to view up close the hippopotamus, cape buffaloes, Giraffes, Elephants and others. Later ,in the afternoon, you shall continue with a game drive while looking out for Red Eyed dove, African Morning, Swallow-tailed and Little Bee-eaters, Black Winged and Northern Red Bishops, Chestnut Crowned and the White Browed Sparrow Weaver, and others. After an activity-filled day, you shall drive back to Nile safari camp for dinner an overnight stay
Day 4: Transfer to Kampala
Early in the morning after breakfast, we shall go back to the park for a game drive or nature walk experience and this shall aid in catching up with some of the previous missed birding species.
