5 Days Chimpanzee and Gorilla Trekking Safari in Uganda

This is an exceptional safari meant for tourists who are interested in spotting unique wildlife. Gorillas and chimpanzees are unique, rare, and endangered species which can be trekked in Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Kibale national park respectively. By the end of this tour, you shall be in position to know the difference between the gorillas and chimpanzees; and moments that you shall carry home shall surely be memorable.

Day 1:    Kampala to Kibale National Park.

Kibale national park is 5 hours journey from Kampala.  During this journey, you shall move past fort portal, one of the remarkable towns in Uganda. Along the route, you shall observe tea plantations which are common before you arrive in fort portal town. Due to the fertile soils and depending on the season on travel, you shall observe several farmers cultivating their land. Farmers mostly plant maize, beans, millet, bananas, and Irish potatoes. Fort portal in the main town for the Toro, a notable tribe in Uganda; the local people are known for weaving and basketry, depending on the time, you shall spend some time observing this art. On arrival at kibale national park, you shall be transferred to your lodge.

Day 2:      Chimpanzee trekking

Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall be transferred to the kibale park headquarters for briefing. The briefing lasts for some few minutes where you shall be briefed about chimpanzees, what to expect, and the dos and don’ts. Later, you shall move into the kibale national park which is one of the most diverse rainforest in Africa. Kibale national park ecosystem is remarkable. And as you are trekking, you shall spot other primates and birds within the park. With the help of the park ranger, you shall be in position to hear the chanting sounds of the chimpanzees which is an indication of their exact location. After some hours of trekking, you shall meet the chimpanzee group. You shall spend about 1 hour with the chimpanzees and during this time, you shall notice their social life. After chimpanzee trekking, you shall head back to lodge for lunch. After lunch, you shall transfer to Bigodi wetland sanctuary for a nature walk where you shall observe various bird species endemic to the region. afterwards, transfer to your lodge for dinner and a night stay. Lodges along kibale national park have awesome views, be ready to profit from that as you are taking a sundowner.

Day 3:    Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you shall transfer from Kibale national park to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. Along the route, you shall observe stunning vegetation and wonderful mountainous rolling hills.  On arrival in Bwindi, check in to your lodge

Day 4:     Gorilla trekking

To enjoy gorilla trekking, you must make some prior preparations. Ensure that you have hiking shoes, a walking stick-in some cases, camera and be ready to hire a porter if it’s necessary. Wake up early in the morning with your mind set on gorilla trekking. The tour guide shall pick you up early in the morning and transfer you to the park headquarter for briefing. At this point, you have to ensure that you have your gorilla permits. These permits are purchased at $600 during the peak season and $450 during the low season. The tour operator normally helps during the purchasing exercise. After briefing and cross examinations, you shall start moving into the thick forest in search of the gorillas. This exercise can take between 1-8 hours depending on the previous location of the gorillas. And once you encounter the gorillas, you shall be able to spend about 1 hour while viewing them. Gorilla trekking is an exceptional experience, much as it may look strenuous due to hours of hiking, when you spot the gorillas, and it is easy to forget about the past experience. Later, you shall be transferred to your lodge in a joyous mood.

Day 5:   Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe International Airport.

After breakfast, you shall pack up your luggage and transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe International airport. Along the route, you shall pass by Mbarara, a region famous for long-horned cattle. You will make a stopover at the Equator and take those memorable photos as you approach Kampala. Day 5 is the last day of this tour.
