8 Days Gorillas, Chimpanzees, and The Big 5 Safari in Uganda

Uganda garnered this name as a result of its beauty, wonderful wildlife, and the hospitable people. During this safari, you shall visit Bwindi Impenetrable national park, Kibale national park, and Queen Elizabeth national park.

Day 1: Airport pickup Entebbe Airport

Depending on your arrival time, our tour guide shall move to Entebbe International Airport and wait for you until they see you. Sometimes a banner with your name is an indication of the person that has come to pick you up at the airport. When you meet the tour guide, you shall receive a great welcome and later drive to your hotel/lodge. Dinner and breakfast shall be served at the lodge. You shall have a night’s stay at the lodge or hotel.

Day 2: Drive to Kibale National Park.

Early in the morning after breakfast at about 7:30 am, you shall meet and greet your tour guide and start driving to Kibale national park.  Normally, the journey takes about 5 hours from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. En-route, you shall have a stopover at fort portal for lunch. Later, you continue journeying through lush vegetation and magnificent rolling hills. On arrival, you shall check in at the lodge. Relax and wait for your dinner before you go to sleep.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

Trekking chimpanzees is as good as trekking gorillas. You need to have chimpanzee permits in order to be allowed to carry out the exercise. The permits are priced $150. The good news is that the chimpanzee permits are part of the overall tour price. You don’t need to scramble looking for the permits, we shall buy them. Early in the morning, you shall be transferred to the park headquarter for a brief talk about the chimpanzees. You shall be told how to behave once you spot the chimpanzees, things to avoid and things to do and so on…

Your journey shall start in the wilderness with the help of the park ranger. The park rangers are always equipped with knowledgeable about how to easy trace the chimpanzees. And after hours between 1-8 hours, you shall be able to view the chimpanzees.  Stay with them for a maximum of 1 hour and later, move back to the headquarters where you shall meet your tour guide who shall drive you back to the lodge for lunch. Afterwards, move to the Bigodi wetland sanctuary for a nature walk.  The nature walk offers opportunities to spot the endemic species known around the area. Later, transfer back to the lodge, for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4:  Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

During this day, you shall transfer from Kibale national park to Queen Elizabeth national park. This 3 hours’ journey; you will arrive before lunch.  Move to the lodge for check in and Later you shall drive to Queen Elizabeth national park for boat cruise along the kazinga channel. The channel attracts different wildlife species. In the evening, you shall move back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Game Drive and Chimpanzee Trekking

It is possible to trek chimpanzee in Queen Elizabeth national park at Kyambura gorge. Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park along the Kasenyi trail for a morning game drive. This game drive attracts many experiences. For example predators can been seen enjoy their prey after a night hunt. In the afternoon, you shall do a chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura gorge. You may opt for a nature walk around the Maramagambo forest. In the evening, transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 6: Transfer To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Very early in the morning, you shall wake up and take breakfast and thereafter, the tour guide shall drive you heading to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. The route to Bwindi offers en-route game drive opportunities; you shall pass by the Ishasha sector which is famous for tree climbing lions. If you are lucky enough, you shall spot the lions up on trees. Buffaloes, Elephants, leopards and herds of cheetahs can be observed as well. Arrive in Bwindi and check in the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight. Many accommodations with Bwindi impenetrable national park are frequented by gorillas. On a lucky day, your gorilla trekking may start at the lodge.

Day 7:  Gorilla Trekking

This is the long-awaited day. With your gorilla permits which are purchased at $600 during the peak season and $450 during the low season, you shall drive to the park headquarters early in the morning after breakfast to attend the gorilla briefing. During the briefing, you are always advised on several encounters and things you should do and those that you shouldn’t. Later, with the assistance of the tour ranger, you shall move into the wild with the sole aim of searching for the gorillas. Gorilla trekking can be strenuous in nature and requires tourists to be in good health.  Make sure you put on hiking shoes and some of the park landscape is steep. If you have a heavy luggage, hiring a porter would sound as the best option. Park rangers always know the previous whereabouts of the gorilla group which makes it easy to trek them. After 1-8 hours, you shall be in position to view the gorillas. And on spotting them, you shall be allowed to stay with them for 1 hour. Maximize this period by taking photos and enjoy different gorilla lifestyle. Later, transfer back to the park headquarters to receive your gorilla certificates which is a clear indication that you were in Uganda for gorilla trekking. Afterwards, move to the lodge for dinner and a night’s stay.

Day 8: Transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe international airport.

After having been soaked into Uganda’s wildlife; it may be time to say goodbye. During this last day, you shall transfer to Kampala or Entebbe international airport to end the tour.
